Closing Wall Gaps and Assigning Demolition Layers in AutoCAD for a Refined Second Floor Layout

Now let's jump up to our second floor. In AutoCAD, we'll just pan over to our second floor, and we'll do the same with our PDF, and let's jump right in. We'll start with the line command, L-I-N-E, enter, and we first need to close up some of these gaps between the walk-in closet and the bathroom.

So let's jump in here, and we'll connect the dots here to here. There used to be a doorway, we'll close it off, and here to here, close that off, and here to here, close that off. Now we're noticing that we might not have demolished these little wall ends.

We can do that now, it's not a problem. We'll select both of those lines, and we'll type in properties. All we have to do is change the layer.

Right now it's set to A-Wall Exist, and we'll swap it up to A-Wall Demo. And we'll get a warning, it says one or more of the objects have been moved to a frozen layer, and that's a good thing. It's on the correct layer, it's frozen, so we see it as gone.

So go ahead and click close. Now that wall looks pretty good. Let's zoom out here.

We have this little bit of wall here to close in, so we'll type in line, and we'll put it right there. We'll close our properties window so it's out of the way, and that bathroom is looking pretty good now. All right, so I think that's good for now.

We're going to have to do a little bit of line work here for our door. So let's practice that in a little bit after we add the door. Let's jump down and close off these lines.

We'll type the line command again, click here and here, line, here and here, and now we'll jump down to this closet at the bottom. First, we'll close up all of these little line gaps on the back side of this closet, here to here, here to here, here to here. So those are closed up.

Now we'll use our same trick that we used on the first floor and draw kind of a construction line to get this first dimension. So I'll draw a line and I'll click right here at the front face of this exterior wall. I'll go straight down and I'll type in two foot ten, and then go straight to the left, past the fireplace, and click.

I'll hit escape. Now I don't need that first line anymore, so I will select it and click delete. This outside line here, I need to copy it up the wall thickness, which is six inches.

So I'll do CO to copy, enter, click, move my cursor up, type in six inches, and enter. And there is that wall in the front. Now I need this little wing wall to the left of shelving, so let's type in the word line again, start from the fireplace, and go straight down to perpendicular, and click.

Hit escape, and we'll copy this over six inches, CO, enter, move to the right, six inches, enter. Okay, now we need this wall that comes off of the right side of the fireplace. Let's zoom in, start the line command right here at the fireplace wall, click.

And this one doesn't go all the way, there's a corner here, so I'll just stop it at the inside line, click. I'll copy it, CO to copy, click once, move it to the left, the six inch wall thickness, and enter. Now I need to extend it down to this corner, so I'll do EX for extend, and I will click.

And there it is. Now I need to clean up these walls here, so I'll do TR for trim, and I'll clean out this section, this section here, here, and here. I'll hit escape, and this line I can simply select and click delete.

So that looks pretty good on that side. On the right side, I'll do trim again, TR for trim, and I will trim here, here. Now I need to trim out this wall, and I'll hit escape and delete these guys as well.

Now here's a little trick. We don't have any demolition for this portion. We just trimmed it out right now.

So how do we add in that line? One trick is to go to our layer, and then we can unfreeze temporarily our demo walls. We'll go to A wall demo. We will unfreeze it, and then turn on, and then we're going to double click to make it the current layer.

I'll leave my layer menu opened up for now. I'll type in line, and I'll click from this point to that point, and now it shows as demolition right there. Pretty cool, right? We can turn on the layers as we need to.

So let's do that yet again. I'm going to go back to my first floor plan, and I have the similar condition right here. This wall that cuts through, I need to show that there's a demolition line here.

So I'll type in line, and I'll add one right here. Perfect, and I'll add another one on the right side, here to here, and that looks pretty good. Awesome.

So all we have to do is change our current layer back to A wall new, and we can freeze our A wall demo again. Awesome. We'll close that down, and it looks like we just need to close up all of the walls here in this main bedroom.

So I'll type in line, and I've got two more little openings to do. One here, and one on this side, and let's zoom out just to make sure we have everything we need. I think we're looking pretty good.

We need to add this closet door, but we'll have to do that later once we place that door, so we know what size that is, and we have that same or similar condition happening up here. We're going to add a door, and that will determine how far that wall goes. So I think for now, we are looking really good.
