In this video, we're going to build the A202 drawing file and talk about titles and the different scales those drawings are going to be set at. So the first thing we need to do is to create a new file.
So let's go file new, make sure that you're using the VDCI CD template. I'll hit open. And in this drawing, we're going to be placing this on the VDCI 22 × 34 sheet.
But the first thing we want to do is attach our floor plan. So I'm going to go to the insert tab, reference attach. I'm going to browse out of my title blocks folder up twice and find my VDCI CAD 301 plan model.
I'll hit open. And here I want to set the scale at one, the insertion point at zero. This is an attachment and it's a relative path.
I'll hit okay. It'll be placed automatically at zero and I'll zoom extents. Now we can go file save and go into my sheets folder and here's CAD 301 A201.
I'll click that to see the name and I'll replace the one with a two. So this is CAD 301-A202.dwg. I'll hit save. And now we're ready to begin to build this sheet.
Now if you look at your handout, you'll see that it uses the same title block. There's the space on the right side for the floor plan keynotes. There's the space on the right side for the floor plan keynotes, but then the viewport itself or the drawing area is split into four sections.
These are going to be our quarter no plots that you see on the screen. The kitchen is going to be at a one half inch scale. You can see that because this no plot is larger and then the other three views, the enlarged guest bathroom, the Jack and Jill bathroom and the hall bath are all going to be at one inch equals a foot scale.
So let's jump into our paper space. And I'm going to first attach our title block. This is going to set the bounds for where we're going to be placing our viewports.
Then I'm going to insert the tbtx file. You'll notice I still have my blocks window open. We'll use that once the title block is in place and then we can draw our viewports.
So the first thing I want to do is once again, go reference attach, go into my blocks, title blocks folder. And again, I'm going to find the VDCI TTLB 2234. The key with the attaching is now this file is referenced in our A201 file and our 202 file.
If we ever need to change something like the client address or the revision list, it will automatically update in all of our sheet files. So I'll hit open. In this case, it's the exact same settings because this is a paper space file drawn a paper space scale brought into paper space.
I'll hit okay. And we can see that it populates all of that information automatically. Now we want to insert our text file, which is the title block text file that fills in our drawn by check by scale and sheet number.
So I'm going to hit the insert button, find the TVTX file, hit open. And again, I'm going to set this at zero comma zero enter. And we'll see it once again, the edit attributes pop up.
In this case, we're still going to, uh, in this case, the sheet number is a 2.2 drawn by are going to be my initials checked by are also my initials. And in this case, the scale should be as noted. We talked about this in an earlier video, but because we have four drawings on the screen, because we have four drawings on the sheet.
And in this case, there are actually different scales. The scale here says as noted, this means check the drawing titles so that we can understand what the scale is on each drawing. I'll hit, okay.
And this will be placed down here. Zoom extents control us to save in this case are no plots, include the space for our drawing titles. We only need to place four viewports and we don't need any additional space left for the drawing titles.
So on the contextual layout tab, I'm going to draw four rectangular viewports. Now, if I hit the dropdown here, you can see that there's a polygon option and an object option. If you generate these through the layout viewports button, you can actually draw four at the same time.
But for now we're going to use the rectangular tool four times in a row. So I'll hit rectangular. I'm going to start at this midpoint.
And I'm going to go shift right click mid between two points, this end point in this end point. Now I can draw three more or I can actually use copy. So I'll go to the home tab, copy my viewport, enter the sand and selecting objects from the end points to once again, the end points, end points and end points.
Now when a viewport is created in AutoCAD, even though these look identical right now, because they are, you can actually change the settings of each one independently. If I jump into this viewport, I can move it around and it won't update the location of the other viewports. We saw this in our CAD 201 course with the elevations.
So for now let's use our zoom window to set each of these views appropriately. If you check the handout, we're going to start up here with drawing one. This is going to be over the kitchen and laundry room area.
So I'm going to zoom in so that I can see the viewport, then double click into my viewport and zoom in close to my no plot. I'll go Z enter, W enter for zoom window. Shift right click end point to the shift, right click end point.
And that will zoom in there. I'm going to check my scale. You can see that it says one half inch equals one foot, zero inches.
That's correct. So I'll lock my viewport and jump outside. Let's come down to this view.
