Creating a Clean Proposed Plan Sheet by Duplicating and Adjusting Layers in Model and Paper Space

Now let's create a sheet for our proposed plans. We are working currently in the model space and everything we do here affects the views happening on our sheets. Let's go ahead and review the sheets first to see what's going on right now.

Let's go to our I0 and everything here looks fine and it's not really pulling too much from the model space, really nothing on this sheet. So this one is okay, but if we look at I1, our demolition plans, we'll notice that all of our hard work has disappeared. What's going on there? Well we hid some of that by freezing the layers and we need to turn it back on to put this sheet back in order.

So let's go back to our model space and let's type in layer. Now this is a list of all of our layers and we'll notice that some of these layers like a door demo are frozen. We need to unfreeze everything.

There's a quick way to do that. If you click on that freeze column, it's a very small column, just has a little sunshine or snowflake there, it will re-sort it so that all of the snowflakes are at the top. Every time you click that it will re-sort and it could be sunshine at the top or snowflakes at the top.

We want the snowflakes at the top and then what I like to do is just click and hold on one of the snowflakes and move my cursor to the very top. That selects all of those layers that are currently frozen and then click that snowflake one time and they all turn on. You can do it manually by clicking on each one, but that's a quick way to do it.

Let's go ahead and re-sort by name again and everything looks good. Let's close that layer window. What happens to our model? It's now like a spaghetti mess full of lots of stuff, but that's okay.

We're going to fix that in each sheet. Let's go back to I1 and see the result. This looks really good, right? Everything is nice and clean.

We're back to our demolition sheet looking good and proper. Let's go ahead and duplicate the sheet to create our proposed plans. Right-click on I1 and let's go ahead and say move or copy.

I'm going to click on move to end and check the box for create a copy and click okay. Here it is. It's called I-1 parentheses and there'll be a number.

Let's go to that and we'll click make sure it's the active view. Right-click and we will select rename. We want to give it our name which is I-2 and click enter to lock that in.

Here we go. Now we want to double click on the title block somewhere. Just double click and we'll update some of the attributes.

The first attribute is sheet number. We want that to be I-2 and we want to change the sheet name at the bottom to proposed plans and we'll click okay there. That looks good but we're still showing all of the demolition information.

Let's first double click right here in our view. Once we double click it activates the view. We get a thicker wider border all the way around and we know it's active.

Let's go ahead and type in layer at this point and we want to make some adjustments. We want to make sure we're showing everything we want to show and hide all the demolition data. There is another column here and it's called VP freeze.

I'm going to hover over it. You'll see VP freeze and it's like a little square with little tiny snowflakes or sunshine. Go ahead and click the header of that column to sort and that will show everything that is frozen.

Let's go ahead and start unfreezing things that we want to unfreeze. P fixed toil, that's for toilet. We'll unfreeze that in viewport and our toilet shows up.

We want P fixed sink. We'll click the button for VP freeze, freeze in viewport. Put the sunshine back on and there we go the sink shows up.

The rug, we'll keep that hidden in the viewport because we don't want to show those details here. Loose furniture, we want to keep that frozen as well. Now A wall new, we will unfreeze that.

A glazed window, we will unfreeze that. A door new, unfreeze that. A door I den, unfreeze that.

Case plan hidden, we will unfreeze that as well. A case overhead, unfreeze that. A case counter, definitely need that, unfreeze it.

A appliance, unfreeze that. Annotation tags, well we may not need that one here so we'll leave that for now. A Anno note, we will unfreeze that.

And A Anno dims. All right, that's looking good. It's turning on all of the proposed plan data, but we still have an overlap with all the demo items.

So let's go ahead and resort our layers by clicking on the name header. And now it's sorted alphabetically. And now we can go through and viewport freeze all the items we don't want.

So A Anno dims demo, we want to VP freeze that. We'll click that third column there. A Anno keynote demo, we're going to VP freeze that layer.

It's starting to clean up really quick. It's looking a lot better. We want our appliance demo and we're going to VP freeze that.

And really all these demo layers. So A case demo, VP freeze. Take care not to do the overall freeze, just the VP freeze, or it will freeze it everywhere and we don't want that.

A door demo, we'll do VP freeze. A wall demo, let's VP freeze that. All right, whoops, I did stair demo.

I want a wall demo. VP freeze that one. Okay, that's looking really good.

I'm also noticing that those old room labels are still showing up. Let's go back to our annotation area. And we have A Anno note exist.

And we'll VP freeze that as well. All right, and that's what we want. Our plans look nice and clean now.

We'll close our layers. And that's it. We see all of our new work showing and all the demo work is frozen.

But it's only frozen in VP freeze. If I click on I1, all of our demo work is still there. Kind of like magic.

And back in model, everything is turned on. So that is exactly what we want. We're using layers to control each of these views.

Let's just double check our settings here. We want to make sure it's set to quarter inch equals a foot down in the bottom right. Then we'll double click outside of it to be back in paper space right in the sheet.

We've got one more thing to do in this sheet for its setup. We've got one which is first floor, two which is second floor. And we'll double click and change those attributes.

Where it says first floor, we'll add proposed plan. And I'm going to copy that because we're going to repeat that same process. I'll say okay.

We'll repeat it again here at second floor. Double click and we'll do CTRL V to paste proposed plan. So the first floor proposed plan, second floor proposed plan.

Let's go back to I1 and we'll do the same but we'll call it demolition plan. We'll double click on first floor. We'll do dash demolition plan.

And we'll copy that CTRL C and say okay. And our second floor, we'll also double click and add demolition plan and okay. So there we are.

Demo plan looks good. We'll double check. I2 looks good.

We are in great shape. We've done a lot just by adjusting layers and making a copy of our demolition sheet.
