Dashboard Navigation and Interactivity with Tableau Filters

All right, so now both sheets look exactly the same, but the buttons actually click to different pages. I'm going to take this out, and I'm going to take this out, and I'm going to bring in some other variations. Oh no, that looked like it messed up.

I'm going to undo. It's fine. I'm going to bring in something first before I, let's bring in this.

Okay, that looks interesting, and let's bring in a text table, and then I'm going to delete this, and now I have my information here. Here I have my buttons. I'm going to click this, and look at that.

It automatically changes, and so I can use this to navigate information within the dashboard. A couple of tricks. If I go over here, I can have this control both worksheets, just like in a pivot table where you have multiple pivot tables, and you want to be able to use something that looks like a slicer.

If I want to see Kelly Williams sales for accessories and all these sub-products, I could just click on her and have it act as a filter. Right now, if I do that, nothing happens. So what do you do to make that happen? You click here, and you want to choose the option for filters, and let's see.

This is not the option I'm looking for. I'll make sure I'm on the right sheet. Filters.

There's a couple of ways to do this here. Use as filter. That's what I wanted to do.

No. All right. I'm not seeing the option I'm looking for, so I'm going to have to, oh, I'm using the wrong object.

I need to have an object that already has a filter. Now, if I want to do use as filter, I can just click this icon. Now it's acting as a filter for both sheets.

So if I want to see Kelly Williams sales, I can just click Kelly Williams, and it filters the information. Anna filters the information. Chuck, pretty cool.

So that's a one-click option that's really easy to use. If I go to the other dashboard, I have to have something like this with a filter. When you make changes to any of the elements here, it doesn't affect the original sheet.

So you can choose to include or exclude items. I'm going to go over here. I don't want to see the title.

If I take out the title here, it doesn't take out the title in the original sheet. I don't like the text table title here. I'm going to go over here and take that out.

And so when I do that, it takes it out of here. But if I go back to the original text table, it still keeps it there. I'm going to go to dashboard.

Let me see if I have a filter option here. Well, I could use it as filter. I'll use it as filter.

I'll click this. Yeah, no, it's not working. So I have to have a special type of object.

So I won't be able to do that here. But if you have a regular filter, you can have the filter apply across multiple objects in this worksheet. You want to be careful because you don't want to use the option where it filters all the worksheets.

There is an option that's going to allow you to choose selected worksheets on this dashboard. And that's the option you want to choose. So I'm going to go over here, click on this object, and I'm just going to.

Yeah, so I don't have anything here. I want to publish this to my Tableau dashboard. So all you have to do is now you'll finally click the save button and this will upload it to the Tableau dashboard.

You might have to play around with it. If I want to do a preview, I'll click here and then I can preview clicking and filtering the information and seeing how it looks. And it is working.

I want to go to page two. I'll click page two and I go to page two. I can go over here and I can turn on my looping display for years.

You can also control the speed, whether it's slow or fast. I'll click page one and it goes back here. I'm going to press escape and now I'm going to save it to my public Tableau.

I'm just going to choose save to Tableau public and it's just going to go through the process of uploading it. I have to sign in. So it's doing its work.

It's publishing all the pages. And the thing that happens automatically is after it does this, it takes you directly to Tableau public. And now I have my visualization just like any other visualization published by me.

I can send people a link to it and they can interact with it. The filters work just like they did locally on my computer. People can do this and they can click page two and go to my other visualization here and then they can click on the arrows and then they can see information across multiple years.

There is a way if you have a certain type of filter to filter both the text table and the filter across multiple years, but I didn't include that visualization. I can go back to page one. When you go to your settings, I have to sign in.

Let me refresh because I think I have to sign in twice. It's showing me how it looks to other people, but then I have to sign in. Okay, so now I've signed in and now I have the gear icon.

I don't want people to see my visualization. Show viz on profile. I can turn this off.

Allow access. Let others download or make a copy of this visualization. I can turn it off.

By default, it's turned on. Show sheets. If I choose to show sheets, I can see the sheets that made up these visualizations.

There they are right here and I can click on any of these sheets and see everything. I just wanted to show the visualizations, so I can hide that and then just show the dashboards that display the visualizations. This would be the completed lesson.
