1. How to Download Revit 2025 families

Autodesk no longer includes all Revit Family Content with the Revit download. If you would like to download and install all the families for Revit, simply follow the steps below to access, download, and install them. If you would like to explore our Revit courses, check them out here.

1. Visit manage.autodesk.com and log in using the email you signed up with.

2. Under the Products and Services section, click All Products and Services.

3. You will see a list of all licenses that have been issued to you. Locate, or search for Revit

4. Click the View details button

5. Click the Libraries button

6. Scroll to locate the library you need. For our courses, we use the US English Content for Revit 2025 library.

7. Click the download button and wait for the file to finish downloading, then open it to install the content.

Please note that the download is approximately 2 GB in size. If you do not want to install so much content, we recommend watching our article on Loading Autodesk Content from the cloud.

2. How to add tabs to the ribbon in Revit 

1. Go to File > Options

2. From the pop up box, select User Interface and pick the tab that you would like to add or bring back up.

3. Check the tabs you want, Select OK and they should show up in your ribbon section.

1. Click the PDF Icon in the top to open the PDF Export pop up box.

2. Your print options should be set to: 

• Current Window

• Sheet Size

• Zoom 100

• Center (what we use most of the time in class)

• Be sure to pick a location you will be able to find later in your files

3. Other Option to check: Hide unreferenced view tags

4. Once all of your options have been selected to your preference, click Export. This will then ask you if you want to save these settings for future use. You can say no if you don’t need it again or yes if you will be printing the same way a lot.

5. Load Autodesk content from the Cloud

How do you access Autodesk Cloud content from within Revit?

More recent versions of Revit no longer include Families in the download when you install Revit. These families can still be accessed using the Load Autodesk Family or Get Autodesk Content buttons in Revit. See the video below to discover how to bring these families into Autodesk Revit.

1. Click the Insert Tab

2. Locate and click the Load Autodesk Family button

3. Find the Family you need by searching for it and then click Load

4. The downloaded family will now be loaded into your project.

7. RVT to NWC export for Navisworks for Revit

Autodesk has made changes to how users export Revit files to the NWC format, as the Export to NWC Utility is no longer included with Revit. To continue working seamlessly with Navisworks, you will need to download and install the NWC Export Utility separately. This process involves selecting the correct version of the utility that corresponds with your version of Revit and ensuring both necessary files are downloaded if applicable

1. Visit https://www.autodesk.com/products/navisworks/3d-viewers

2. Scroll down to the Navisworks NWC Export Utility that matches your version of Revit.

3. Some years have two files. If your year does, be sure to download File 1 and File 2, otherwise you will get an error message.

4. After both files have finished downloading, open the .exe file. Typically, this is File 1. This will prepare the Installer.

5. Once the Installer is created, click “Run Installer” and wait for the installation to complete. This will take several minutes to complete.

6. Restart your Computer and open Revit. You should now see the NWC file format option when you go to File>Export, which will allow you to continue with the lesson.

8. Toposurface in Revit 2024 and above

9. Setting up a distribution in Revit MEP

In more recent versions of Revit, you may need to create a new distribution system if there aren’t any listed in your dropdown.

10. Modifying top and bottom constraints for walls in Revit

Modifying top and bottom constraints for Walls in Revit is easy.

This error happens because the base constraint and the top constraint are misaligned. Oftentimes, the top of the wall may be set lower than the base of the wall, and Revit is unable to model the walls at the correct height.

To solve this, when the error window pops up, click the “Reset Constraints” button and verify that you have the correct values set.

12. What are the system requirements for Revit

Revit has different requirements depending on the complexity of the model. They are labeled as Minimum, Value, and Performance. For the purposes of our courses, it is suggested you at least meet the medium level, or Value as Autodesk refers to it, but you will be able to take our courses with the Minimum option. Below you can see all levels of requirements. Please keep in mind as new versions of Revit are released, these requirements may change. See Autodesk’s website for the most up-to-date system requirements for Revit.
