This piece delves into the technical process of annotating and naming views in a BIM 322 course, specifically focused on creating an enlarged bathroom plan. It details the steps involved in handling visibility and graphics overrides, linking and unlinking elements, and tagging water fixtures accurately.

Welcome back to the CAD Teacher VDCI video course content for the BIM 322 course. In the previous video, we went ahead and actually created this enlarged plan that you see here and annotated it and gave it all the pipe dimensions that we needed so that people could use it. So what we're going to go ahead and do now is I want to go ahead and actually rename this view.
We didn't rename it in the last video, so we'll go ahead and rename it here. I'm going to go ahead, select it, right-click, Rename. I'm going to change it from Callout of Sheet View.
I'm going to call it Enlarged Bathroom Plan – 1 – Plumbing and I'm going to go ahead and hit OK, and there it is. Perfect. What we want to go ahead and do now is let's go ahead and jump up to the second floor. So I want to click on 2 – Plumbing here and we're pretty much going to go about the same process, but what do you notice? It looks like we have almost a double toilet here, which is kind of odd even though I can only select just one, and then I also can see the HVAC zones.
Now sometimes these kinds of things happen. What's going on is that in our Visibility and Graphics Overrides, our HVAC zones are on in this view. And sometimes when we're duplicating views or using other kinds of tools like that, what will happen is that we will actually get information showing up that we don't necessarily want to have show up. Also, what's going on here is that we have one toilet that we've actually placed, and then if I hit TAB and tab-select, if I can get it to pick up, one of these is part of the Revit link.
So it's part of the actual Revit link that we brought in, meaning it's the architect's models. We need to go ahead and turn those off. So what I want to do is I'm first going to go ahead and open VV.
So I'm going to go VV. I'm going to scroll down and find my HVAC Zones and uncheck those there and click Apply. And as you can see, they've disappeared from my drawing here.
I'm not done with this Visibility and Graphics Overrides. I'm going to go ahead and go all the way to the right to the Revit Links tab, and then I'm going to go ahead—this is, of course, the link that we have LinkedIn. I'm going to go to my Display Settings.
I'm going to click on By Host View, and we have By Host View, By Linked View, and Custom. We want to go ahead and use Custom. What this here means is that the link will have the same visibility settings as the Level 2 Plumbing Plan.
So what I want to do is I want to go ahead and go to Custom because I don't want to turn off my plumbing fixtures in that Level 2 Plumbing Plan. I just want to go ahead and turn them off in the link. So I go to Custom.
I want to go to Model Categories, and I need to go ahead under Model Categories and change this also to Custom. I'm going to scroll down, find Plumbing Fixtures here, uncheck it, click Apply, and then click OK.
I'm going to click Apply and then OK again. And as you can see, everything looks correct there. Great, we're good to go.
So what I need to do now is we want to go ahead—and since we don't have that much plumbing information on this drawing—we're going to go ahead and just give an enlarged plan view of this on our sheet, and that will be all the information that we're going to give. So what I want to do is go to the View tab. I'm going to go to Callout.
I'm going to go ahead and click and drag, and click again to lock in that actual callout. There we go. I'm going to select this guy here.
I'm going to go ahead and grab this shape handle, bring it all the way, and place it approximately in the same location I placed the last one. As you can see, I don't necessarily want this to be overlapping this text, so I'm going to drag that guy in a little bit and clean it up just a tad.
Perfect. I'm going to hit Escape to deselect. I'm going to zoom out.
I want to go ahead and jump into this view now. So I'm going to double-click on the section head here, and there we are. As you can see, there is some other information here, but what's happening is we're seeing the actual floor below.
Now this is going to be our sheet view, and we don't necessarily need to see this information. If you go over to your Properties Palette, you'll see under Underlay here, it says Level 1. Let's go ahead and change that to None. And that's going to remove that information so we can read our sheet more clearly.
Awesome. Let's go ahead and just start stacking some things. Since we aren't going to be putting a floor plan of this second floor on the sheets for the plumbing, let's go ahead and tag our lavatories, water fixtures, and plumbing fixtures.
So I'm going to go to the Annotate tab. I'm going to go to Tag by Category. I'm going to pick here, pick here, here, here, and here.
I'm just going around and picking the different water fixtures. There we are. And I'm going to hit Escape.
If you notice that our actual units here do not have the correct tags associated with them. So what we're going to do is I'm going to go ahead and manually adjust these tags so that they all say WC1 for that water closet. I'm going to select here and pick all the toilets that are going to be WC1.
Go down to this Comments area. If you're at the top, just scroll down. Comments here.
I'm going to enter WC1 (in all caps) and hit ENTER. It's going to say elements have duplicate mark values. Perfectly fine.
Go ahead and hit OK. There's that. This toilet here—this will be WC2.
So enter WC and change it to 2. Perfectly fine. This will be UR1 for Urinal 1.
I'm going to select the actual unit. Enter UR1. OK.
And then all of these will be the same as the lavatories on the ground floor. So it's going to be L1 for Lavatory 1. I'm going to go ahead and hit F4.
In the Comments field, enter L1. OK. Perfect.
There we go. I'm going to hit Escape. I need to do a little bit of adjustment so that these are a little easier to read.
I'm going to click on this tag, drag it outward. Click on this tag, drag it outward. And I'm going to align all the tags so that they're consistent and look correct.
Bring this tag out to here. There we are. And we've tagged all the water fixtures in our area here.
I'm going to go ahead and stop the video here. And when we come back, we'll go ahead and tag the actual pipes and finish up this drawing. Then we'll be putting together the plumbing sheets.
See you then.
