Explore how to optimize your Revit plumbing project by learning how to place a vent system efficiently. Gain insights into the process of pipe installation, managing views and sections, and setting up the appropriate system types for your project.
Key Insights
- The article demonstrates how to optimize a Revit plumbing project by placing a vent system and installing pipes. It further emphasizes the importance of properly managing views such as the 3D view and the section view.
- Utilizing the correct system type for your project is crucial. The article illustrates this by detailing how to ensure that the system type is set to 'vent' when installing pipes for a vent system, and how to avoid common pitfalls such as forgetting to turn the slope off or on.
- Reference levels and middle elevations play a significant role in structuring the project. The author explains how to correctly set these for each pipe to ensure that your Revit plumbing project is organized and efficient.
Note: These materials offer prospective students a preview of how our classes are structured. Students enrolled in this course will receive access to the full set of materials, including video lectures, project-based assignments, and instructor feedback.
In the previous video, we went ahead and kind of squared some things up with our urinals to make everything a little bit more efficient. And we're ready to go ahead and place our vent system for the other side of the bathroom here.
So, I still have my plumbing view open here. I still have my 3D view. I'm going to close my 3D view.
We don't need it for this, but I still want to show my section. If you only have your plan view or something like that open—again, how I'm getting into this—I have my working section. I'm going to go ahead and bring it back.
I'm going to go ahead and go into that view so I can see it. And then I hit WT to go ahead and window tile. Again, it doesn't matter if your section is on the left and your plan is on the right, or vice versa, or however it's going to be.
Now we're going to do the same exact thing that we did for the level below, right? Where we draw in the pipes and then place our vent. We need to start here because we need to get to the second floor. So, I'm going to go up to—let's see here.
Let's go to Systems. I'm going to go to Pipe, two-inch diameter. Make sure that your system type again is set to Vent. We went through and did all those urinals first because we wanted to make sure that we didn't have any of those pitfalls where we accidentally draw sanitary pipes when we want vents, or whatever.
Also, make sure your slope is off. Again, we're kind of grouping these commands and these tasks in a fashion where we're going to avoid those pitfalls of forgetting to turn the slope off or on, or forgetting to change our system type. So, slope off, system type is Vent.
I'm going to go into my section here, come here and come up and go over. There we go. I'm going to come here, make sure I get the connector, go up, go over.
There we go. Let's go ahead—I'm going to go on to the next one.
So again, PI for Pipe, come here, go over, escape once. It's going to keep me in the Pipe command. Again, we'll fix the elevations later.
There we go. There's that one—here to here. There we go.
I'm going to go on to the next one. Now, you may notice that the vent pipe is actually looking black. So, I'm going to hit PI again.
That's because we haven't had a color assigned to it. We'll go ahead and assign that color in the properties of the system next. We can also assign a couple of other things.
We're going to make this vent pipe look a little different from what we have for our sanitary pipe. So, there's that. Okay.
I'm going to escape. Let's move on to the next one. Again, it's very repetitive.
Now I have the toilets on this side. So again, PI for Pipe, Vent, slope off. There we go.
And I'm just going to do what we've been doing. There we go. And we have one more lavatory and two more toilets.
So, PI—keep going. There we are. And then the last toilet.
So again, PI again. I'm making sure I'm on Vent, making sure my slope is off. There we go. There we go.
Perfect. Let's go to our 3D view. We should have those all populated.
Wonderful. I'm going to select all of these guys again. I'm making sure my reference level is Level 1, and the middle elevation will be 10 feet.
Same here. Select all these guys. Reference level: Level 1, middle elevation: 10 feet.
And then come up to the second floor. These guys should be reference elevation of Level 2. Let's go Level 2,10 feet.
Same thing here. Oops—make sure you get the pipes.
Reference level: Level 2,10 feet. And there we go.
