This article provides an overview of the BIM 322 course, Revit MEP2, offered by CAD Teacher VDCI, focusing on the development of construction documents for MEP trades using Revit MEP. It also covers the course's organization and file structure, emphasizing the importance of work-sharing in the context of this project.
Key Insights
- The BIM 322 course is designed to transition from modeling to the creation of actual construction documents for MEP trades using Revit MEP.
- Participants are encouraged to replicate a specific folder structure for course-related files on their devices, promoting efficient organization and seamless work-sharing on the central file.
- The course includes practical exercises such as bringing details from another Revit project into the current one and correctly referencing those details, providing a hands-on experience for participants.
Welcome to CAD Teacher VDCI's video course content for the BIM 322 course, Revit MEP2. What we're going to be going ahead and doing is I'm going to go ahead and give a small overview of exactly what will be happening in this course. Now in Revit MEP1, we focused extensively on modeling and we did develop some sheets.
In this course we're going to be developing more sheets and moving more towards actual construction documents for the MEP trades and how we can accomplish those in Revit MEP. So what I'm going to go ahead and do first is I want to go ahead and show you the folder structure that I have set up. So what I'm going to do is I just have Revit MEP here open and this is just the generic splash screen here and what I'm going to do is go to Open here and I'm going to go from my Documents, and I'm going to select my C drive and I'd like for you to copy this folder structure or layout.
Currently I have a BIM 322 folder here on my C drive, I'm going to go ahead and double-click into that. Inside that folder, I have a couple of other folders and then I have my actual file that we will be working on. We are using work sharing for this project so we're going to have to create a new local file from the central file.
First I have the BIM 322 backgrounds, in that backgrounds is just the Revit architecture building that is linked into our current Revit MEP project. I have the BIM 322 central which has the BIM 322 central file which is the file that we'll be creating our local file off of and we'll be going ahead and then synchronizing to this file. Then we have the Revit temp and the Revit central backup.
These are just files that Revit automatically creates so we're just going to leave them there. Then in the details what I have here is right now all I'm showing is just the basic generic details that we have that are currently in another Revit project. What we'll be doing in this course is pulling some details from this Revit file to our current Revit project and how that process works when bringing those details in and creating callouts and referencing those correctly.
What I'd like you to go ahead and do is please download the files from the SIS that have been posted there and then go ahead and create a folder structure similar to this with the BIM 322 backgrounds, BIM 322 central and BIM 322 details. Then we're going to go ahead and actually create this here in a second. Go ahead and get that done and then I'll see you in the next video.
