In this article, the process of creating title blocks and composing sheets in a BIM 322 course is meticulously laid out. The step-by-step walkthrough focuses on operations like selecting elements, renaming, changing scales, and modifying views to compose an electrical power plan sheet and a lighting plan sheet.
Key Insights
- The initial step in composing sheets involves creating title blocks, which is executed by selecting the 'sheets' option, clicking 'new sheet', and choosing the appropriate title block. This new sheet can be renamed according to preference.
- Elements like power plans and enlarged views can be added to the sheet by finding the relevant views and placing them on the sheet. The scale of these views can be adjusted as needed to provide the necessary level of detail.
- To create multiple sheets, the process can be repeated with different elements. For instance, a second sheet can be created to accommodate lighting plans. The titles on the sheets can be changed without altering the view names, providing clear and organized presentation of information.
Welcome back to the CAD Teacher VDCI video course content for the BIM 322 course. In the previous video, we went ahead and actually detailed out both of our power plans, and we went ahead and we're ready to go ahead and start composing our sheets. So one thing I want to go ahead and do is, let's go ahead and actually create our title blocks.
I'm going to scroll down, and I'm going to go to Sheets. I'm going to select it, do a right-click, New Sheet. Go ahead and synchronize to central if you need to. I'm going to choose the BIM 321—it's the same title block that we used in the Revit 1 course. I'm going to hit OK, and there we are. I want to go ahead and rename it right now. I can either go here to the Project Browser or go over to here. I'm just going to go ahead and click in here, and I'm going to go ahead and name this E1.0, and there we are. I'm actually going to name this sheet Electrical Power Plans, and there we are—beautiful.
I'm going to go ahead and Zoom Extents, and I'm going to go ahead and bring over my power plans. Scroll up, find Sheet View for the first floor power plan, place it here. Go get Sheet View 2 for the power plan, place it here. The other thing I want to go ahead and bring over is that enlarged view.
So I'm going to go to Enlarged Sheet View 1 Electrical Room, pick here, drag up. I'm going to go ahead and place it about here. And what I'm going to do is, I'm going to go ahead and increase the scale of this guy. So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to select that viewport, I'm going to change it from a quarter inch equals a foot, and let's go ahead and make it a half inch equals a foot. And there we are—perfect. So that's going to go ahead and give us all that information.
The second thing I want to go ahead and do is, I want to change these Sheet View names. I don't want to change them in the Project Browser, but I want to change them here. So I'm going to select the viewport, I'm going to go ahead and scroll down, find Title on Sheet, and name it Power Plan – Level 1, and there it is.
I'm going to go here, change this to Power Plan – Level 2. Just the title on the sheet—I'm not actually changing the view name. I'm going to go here, and I'm going to go ahead and enter Enlarged Electrical Room Plan – Level 1. There we go. I'm going to go ahead and take this and actually extend it out.
So again, how I did that is, I selected the viewport, I have the two different shape handles. I'm going to click on the shape handle and drag it up. If I wanted it to align to this one down here, what I need to do is, I need to zoom out to a view where I can see this guy, drag it over, and there it is. Hit Escape, and there we are. We've composed our Electrical Power Plan sheet.
What I want to go ahead and do now is, let's create another sheet for our lighting plans. I'm going to go down here to Sheets, right-click, New Sheet. Again, we're using that BIM 321—the title block from the Revit MEP 1 course. Hit OK.
There we are. As you can see, it gave us the E1.1 name, and so that's perfect—that's exactly how I want the sheet numbered. I want to go ahead and change the name.
So I'm going to select it here, do a right-click, Rename, and let's go ahead and change this to Lighting Plan, and hit OK—and there we are, beautiful. What I want to go ahead and do now is, I want to go ahead and bring over the lighting plans. I'm going to scroll up.
I'm going to grab my Sheet View 1, Electrical Lighting, bring it here, place it about here. I'm going to grab my Sheet View 2, Electrical Lighting, pull it and place it about here—and there we are, good to go. I want to go ahead and change those titles on sheet.
So I'm going to zoom in here, select that viewport, and I'm going to go over to my Property Palette. I'm going to go ahead and enter Lighting Plan – Level 1. I'm going to go here and enter Lighting Plan – Level 2. And we have both of those there—awesome. Go ahead and Zoom Extents, Control-S, and save the file. We have completely created our electrical sheets.
I'll go ahead and see you in the next video.
