Setting Up Python with Anaconda

So we'll get started with setup now. We're going to download Anaconda. If you already have it, then you're all set.

Anaconda we can download by going to anaconda.com and the interface may change between recording this video and when you are actually doing it. If it does, the interface should be very similar to this. Find the download button.

If it asks you to provide your email, you can choose the secret option, skip registration, or give them your email if you'd prefer. And then you should have this green button on the left, or again, you know, if their interface has changed, something very similar, and you can choose it and it should be the correct one for your operating system. Once you click on download, it gives you a couple of choices for macOS.

Choose the correct one. And while this is downloading, let's talk about why we use Anaconda and what Anaconda is. Anaconda is a way to set up a local Python environment.

There are other tools for managing your versions of Python and all the libraries we'll use. And many of them are very good. There are plenty of proponents of all different kind of tooling around Python.

The reason we chose Anaconda is that it requires the fewest number of tools. It's pretty much a one-stop shop for setting up Python. And it will also, you know, sort of universalize setup for our students.

It's not the only reason. Anaconda has lots of great benefits as well. But that's the reason we've chosen Anaconda for this.

So please download Anaconda. Looks like it's all set for me. Open up that installer and follow all its directions, which, you know, again, may change.
