How do I draw the Oval shape within the pedestal sink in the CAD101 Midterm?

Easy and Fast Solution (for the Advanced AutoCAD User)

CAD Midterm 101

For the oval basin, you’ll want to use the ELLIPSE command in AutoCAD 2026. You can create it by specifying the major and minor axes:

  1. Type ELLIPSE in the command line and press Enter.
  2. Click to set the center or one endpoint of the oval.
  3. Drag or type in the values for the major and minor axis lengths (based on the dimensions in your drawing).

This will let you form the oval shape accurately. Remember to use OSNAP to snap to midpoints and endpoints for precision.

Detailed solution (For Beginner-Intermediate level AutoCAD user):

1. In AutoCAD select the Circle tool and the Ellipse tool. Assuming you created the square and chamfered the corners. The next step is:

2. CIRCLE: Click on Circle (Top Ribbon) and type TRA - ENTER-Click on the midpoint of the bottom line - Move the cursor up and a yellow line shows up - type 9 (For 9 inches) - ENTER - ENTER AGAIN

3. Now Type 1 (For Radius, remember, AutoCAD requires a radius instead of a diameter, that's why we divide by 2) - ENTER - YOU NOW HAVE A CIRCLE.

4. ELLIPSE: For the Ellipse - Click on Ellipse (On Top Ribbon) - type TRA - ENTER- Click in the Center of the circle that you just created - the yellow lines show up again - move your cursor to the right type 8" (1'4" divided in two) ENTER

Move your cursor up and type 6" (1'0" divided in two) - ENTER. YOU NOW HAVE AN ELLIPSE

You can find the measurements on the handout for the midterm.
