Efficient Sprinkler Placement Using Detail Lines for Accuracy

Efficient Placement of Concealed Sprinklers Using Detail Lines and Dimensioning in Revit.

Explore the strategic use of detail lines to find midpoints and define areas when designing sprinkler systems without ceiling tiles. Learn how to select and position sprinklers efficiently, ensuring maximum coverage and adherence to safety standards.

Key Insights

  • The article demonstrates the use of detail lines in defining central points and areas, effectively speeding up the design process without the need for comprehensive dimensioning.
  • When selecting and positioning concealed sprinklers, considerations are given to optimal distances from the wall and between units, ensuring maximum coverage and safety compliance.
  • The author highlights the importance of correctly setting the elevation levels of sprinklers, tying the practical requirements of the sprinkler placement to the overarching need for clear and precise design.

So let's start in this area here. Now what I like to do when we don't have ceiling tiles is again use my Detail Lines to help me when I can. So let's go type DL and what I want to do is just draw a cross anywhere in this area and I'm doing this to find the middle of this area and the Detail Line will help me do that much quicker than having to dimension everything.

I'll go to DL again and look for the midpoint of my line and now I know that here is my middle point of this area. Let's go to selecting our Sprinklers and we'll choose our Concealed Sprinkler this time. Let's start here now I want to bring this closer to the wall.

Let's make a Dimension, hit TAB to the center of my sprinkler. Okay that's 10 feet that's much too far off of that wall so I will start off and set this to four feet. Okay I no longer need these Detail Lines.

Now we'll take this one we'll Copy Selection and we will go down 15 feet which is our maximum spacing of our Sprinklers. Okay let's go on ahead and host them deselect my Spot Elevation and this is showing at nine feet the elevation is at nine feet we should be good. Let's just do this last area here so again I'm going to use a Detail Line find my midpoint with another Detail Line and let's do one more here.

Now I have my midpoint going in this direction and in this direction so we'll choose another one of our Concealed Sprinklers, Create Similar and let's make a Dimension starting here. Okay I want to set this one to three foot two that looks good and I'd like to copy this over in this direction we'll go 15 feet maximum spacing. Okay now since I know I'm going to be going down this way I think I will move this sprinkler to this intersection of the Detail Lines that's good pan back out now we're going to copy this one make sure you select the sprinkler we're going to copy this one in this direction 15 feet.

All right let's get rid of our Detail Lines select oops you can get rid of that Detail Line as well select our Sprinklers holding Control key Level One at 10 feet the elevation here is at 10 feet. Okay our cafeteria and kitchen areas are populated.
