This article outlines the steps to connect everything in Level 1 and Level 2 classroom areas. The focus is primarily on working with the Level 1 piping plan, drawing sprinklers on both floors, and then connecting everything in these areas.
Key Insights
- The procedure starts with drawing sprinklers on Level 1 and then bringing them to Level 2. This involves moving sections, offsetting, and drawing pipes to cover specific sprinklers.
- After drawing the pipes, the next step is to connect everything in the specified areas on both floors. This involves selecting pipes, moving them, trimming and extending branch lines, and making sure everything is lined up properly.
- Once the piping fittings are all set, the process involves copying to clipboard, pasting to Level 2 Piping Plan, and aligning to the current view. Before proceeding, it is recommended to save the file and double-check all connections.

Let's continue connecting everything in the Level 1 and Level 2 Classroom areas. So let's start with our Level 1 piping plan. Let's go back there.
It looks like we missed these sprinklers in the corridor—but that's okay, it's a little extra practice. We'll do the same thing and draw them on Level 1, then bring them to Level 2. After that, we're going to connect everything in these areas on both floors, and we should be good to go.
So let's move our section. Let's cover this sprinkler, this sprinkler, and this sprinkler. I'm going to close my Level 2 piping plan for now and type WT for Window Tile.
Okay, I'm going to pan over to this sprinkler—here we are. So again, to offset, we'll do the same procedure: draw pipe (1 inch). There's a dimension there, so we can delete it.
That's okay. If you get that notice, you can delete that as well. Draw pipe again, and let's delete this elbow.
Let's pan over to the next sprinkler. Find where we are on our piping plan. Here we go.
This time we'll go to the right, remove it, and just one more. Pan over to the right. Okay, now let's go back to our piping plan.
We'll select this pipe, hold CTRL, select this one, and hold CTRL again to select the next one. If you recall, we moved 2 feet, 2 inches, so we'll do the same thing. Click Move, go up, and enter 2 feet, 2 inches.
All right, we can click on the branch line > Trim/Extend > Single Element > branch line > arm over. Make sure we're lined up with the sprinkler and draw pipe (1 inch). We're tied into that.
This time, we can drag it to the branch line, draw pipe (1 inch), and one more. Okay, now if you recall, let's get rid of these transition pieces before we copy it up. Be careful and grab just the piping fittings.
Zoom in, make sure you've got that elbow, including that one-inch piece dropping straight down into the sprinkler. Hold CTRL. We'll do the same thing.
Oops—this time I grabbed the sprinkler. But remember, it's not a problem. If that happens, go to Filter, deselect Sprinkler, and hit OK. All right, again, go to Copy to Clipboard > go to Level 2 Piping Plan > Paste > drop-down > Align to Current View. There we go.
All right, before we move on, let's save our file. Okay, now it's just a matter of connecting everything. It'll be a little time-consuming, so feel free to skip ahead in certain portions of the video. I'll explain my workflow, and we'll be doing the same process, but let's begin at the Level 1 piping plan.
The first thing I want to do is find one of our detail lines. We don't need them anymore. They helped us set things up, but now we can delete them. Click on it, right-click.
Choose Select All Instances > Visible in View > Delete. Okay, pan out. I don't need my section right now.
If your main is too far back, be sure to extend it a bit. We can go ahead and cap this open end. Now, before using Trim/Extend > Single Element, notice that right next to it we have Trim/Extend > Multiple Elements.
We're going to be connecting all of the branch lines to the main, so in this case, select Trim/Extend > Multiple Elements, select our main, and now it's just a matter of selecting each of our branch lines. After all the work we did, this is pretty satisfying—to just sit back and do a few clicks. We'll be good to go. Okay, zoom out.
That looks good. We still have to do our sprinklers, but let's do the same thing on Level 2 while we're in the same mindset. Okay, again, if you need to extend your main out, drag it over a bit and cap it.
Okay, one more time: Trim/Extend > Multiple Elements, select the main, and now select your branch lines. If you misclick like I did—it happens—just go back, click the main again, and continue. Okay, and now it looks like on Level 2, this arm over configuration can be handled in a few ways. In this case, we'll probably add this to the arm over and branch line when we draw this in later on, so we can delete it for now.
Okay, go ahead and hit Save one more time. All right, in the next video, we'll go through the process of connecting all of our sprinklers and arm overs to our branch lines.
