Optimizing Corridor Assemblies for Intersection Alignment in Civil 3D

So in this video, we're going to go ahead and modify our highway and Dev Main intersection so that it starts to match up better with what our actual alignments are doing here, our actual corridors are doing that are matching up with our intersection. So I'm going to go ahead and select that intersection.

I'm going to go to Corridor Properties. And so what you'll notice here, I'm going to put this in the bottom corner so that we can see it better. So inside the Corridor Properties window, what you're going to notice is that what Civil 3D did is it created a very complex corridor or this intersection.

It created many different baselines, many different regions. And so what we're going to be doing is we're going to be updating the assemblies associated with these different regions to use some of the assemblies that we created in our drawings. So I'm going to go ahead and look at what we're dealing with here.

So what we have going on here is we have a Baseline Intersection. And so what you can see when you click on these is it'll highlight the areas that are associated with these. So what we have going on here is we have a Curb Return section, a Curb Return section.

Then we have our Secondary Road, and then we have our Primary Road, our intersection at our Primary Road, and then our other portion of our Primary Road. So the first thing I'm going to do is change these two Primary Road sections to use our assembly rather than this predefined Primary Road Full section. So I'm going to go ahead and jump in here on the upper one, change Primary Road Full section to our Highway.

I'm going to go ahead and click okay. And then I'm going to drop down here and do the same. I'm going to change my assembly to Highway and click okay.

So from there what I'm going to go ahead and do is I'm going to change my targets. So the upper one I'm going to go here. I'm going to drop down.

I'm going to find my Existing Highway Right 18, which is the widening alignment that we had created at the beginning of this class. I'm going to go ahead and click add and hit okay. And then I'm going to do the same thing for the other one.

I'm going to come down to this one, go over to targets, go to this target. I'm going to scroll down. I'm going to go find my Existing Highway Right 18.

I'm going to click add. I'm going to hit okay. And then I'm going to hit okay.

And I'm going to hit apply. I'm going to rebuild this corridor. And what you're going to see happen now is that this widening is going to start looking more like what we had going on here before.

If I go to this corridor, drag it back to here, select in, go to here, drag it back to here, select in, we're looking good. So what I'm going to go ahead and do now is I'm going to go back into this corridor. I'm going to go make another change.

I'm going to go into here. I'm going to select the intersection. I'm going to go to Corridor Properties.

I'm going to go to my Dev Main. I'm going to go to my Secondary Road. I'm going to go here and change my assembly to my Dev.

I'm going to go ahead and click okay. And then I'm going to go here. I don't have to change my targets because I already had CIV202 set up.

So I'm going to go ahead and hit apply, hit rebuild, and you're going to see this widen out to match this one. So I'm going to go ahead and hit okay. And then the last thing that we need to do to make sure that this is good is that we can make a change to these curb returns if we wanted to.

I'm going to do that in another video. So what we're going to go ahead and do now is we're going to save and then I'll meet you in the next video where we'll update this intersection.
