Discover the process of adding cabinet tags for better understanding of cabinet sizes in an interior design project using a certain software. These tags greatly simplify identifying the dimensions of each cabinet in a quick glance, improving efficiency and accuracy.
Key Insights
- The article discusses the method of adding cabinet tags in the software, specifying the width of the cabinet in inches. A wall cabinet of 21 inches wide would be tagged as 'W21' and a base cabinet of the same size as 'B21'.
- The process involves confirming the scale to be used; choosing the right layer; typing the text; adjusting its size, location, and orientation; and copying it to other cabinets of the same size. The tags are then updated as needed, depending on the actual size of each cabinet.
- The article emphasizes the convenience of these labels, allowing a quick and easy identification of all cabinet sizes in the design. It saves time and aids in maintaining accuracy in the overall design and planning process.

Now let's add in our cabinet tags. For example, we have this wall cabinet that's 21 inches wide, so we have a W and then 21. We have a base cabinet that's 21 inches wide, so we have B and then 21.
Let's zoom in, first of all, to our doorwall elevation. And once we've zoomed in, let's verify a couple of things. Number one, we want to be set at one half an inch equals one foot for our scale.
We also want to type in layer, and the layer we want to have currently active is our ANO note. We'll select that layer and double click. Now we'll type in the word text and enter.
And we can simply click in the corner of this upper cabinet here, right there, click, and then draw a line directly to the right, click again. With that, we can start typing. Now if yours is like mine, the cursor is pretty huge, that's okay.
Just type it in, W21, and then we'll select everything, and now we'll change the size. Now we have to do that by opening the properties window, so we might have to click off somewhere else, and then select it again and type in the word properties. And then over here in the properties window, we see the height, and it's pretty tall right now, three foot six inches.
We just did three inches for the dimensions, so we'll do that again, three inches, enter, and there we go. All right, that looks pretty good, but it's right smack in the corner, so we'll select it and do m for move. With ortho turned on, let's make sure it's turned on here, I'm going to go up, let's say one inch, and we'll go to the right one inch also, one inch.
Okay, so there's our wall cabinet, and we'll use co to copy, and all we have to do is click on the bottom left corner of this cabinet and just copy it along. They typically they typically go in the same corner each time. There we go, so they're all copied across.
All we have to do is make the updates where needed. For example, this w18, we'll just double click, and we can edit that text, change it to 18, and we're good to go. Now let's copy one of these from the top cabinet, and we'll copy it to one of our base cabinets here, and hit escape, and we'll change this to b21.
We double click, swap the w out for a b, and then copy it along, co to copy. There we go, and the last one, we have to hit escape, double click, and we'll change that to 15. Awesome, now let's go ahead and keep going through our other elevations.
We'll grab our b21, we'll copy it, again grab that bottom left corner of the actual cabinet, click, and then we'll paste just one for now, and hit escape. We'll double click and edit it, because they're all b18. We'll start with b18 and then copy that one all the way down.
So co to copy, enter, click the bottom left corner of the cabinet door, and then click all the way down every corner. Okay, that one looks good. Now let's go to our next elevation.
We've got a b21, and we've already used that up here, so we'll grab one of these b21s, co to copy, click in the corner, click in the corner of this cabinet, that's a b21, that's a b21, and so is the third cabinet here, b21. Now the fourth one is a b24, so we'll click, hit escape, and we'll update that before moving on. We'll make that a four, select it, and co to copy.
Click the corner of the cabinet, and one copy is good. While we have that copied, we'll go over here to the kitchen sink, and click again, and escape. Now the kitchen sink is back to 21, and then we'll copy that across.
Copy, and we're good. Now all of our cabinets have a label, making it really easy to see in a quick glance what all of the cabinet sizes are.
