I changed from taking a few courses to deciding to complete the entire BIM course halfway through. The staff was very helpful helping me with all the paperwork and transcript requests needed to make this happen. I took this program to learn BIM for projects that require it contractually, where AutoCAD is not allowed, and to stay current in the industry. This course was just what I needed to bridge the gap between trying to teach myself and being given a solid path to follow. I learned more in 9 months than I did nearly 10 years casually trying to pick this up on my own. It was not easy, but it shouldn't be. Very happy with the results!

I ended up going with VDCI because they allowed a faster program, you can be done in under a year and it was vastly cheaper, but one of the one of the main reasons I went with VDCI was because of the hands-on experience and just the real practical real-life situations that they offered in the program. After I got hired my boss actually told me that I had more experience just from coming out of school than most of the people they hired from a two-year institution, so that just goes to show you because real engineers teach the program a VDCI you just get more like real-life problems and real life situations. And they do a good job of taking you through that.

Over the last 25 years, I've worked in the fields of interior, lighting, web and graphic design. At some point I took a sabbatical to raise three kids. With the design industry constantly changing, I needed to find a way to get up to speed. VDCI was instrumental in getting me back into the workforce. I decided to go back to my interior design roots and looked into AutoCAD and BIM. Back in college, we drafted on vellum and fed them through blueprint machines. Within a matter of months, I learned how to produce the same types of construction documents with AutoCAD and Revit in a fraction of the time. From day one, the staff at VDCI guided me every step of the way. They offered both onsite night classes that worked with my schedule and the convenience of online classes. The online instructors corresponded promptly whenever I had any questions. Victoria Stover was my point of contact, and I can truly say I couldn't have made it work without her. She was accessible on a daily basis and worked around my schedule regarding planning courses and certification exams. She is gold. I am now working for an architect firm doing design development, construction documents and rendering. Revit is a robust program, and I’m learning new functionality on a daily basis. I took both certification courses in AutoCAD and Revit. If anyone is interested in working in the design industry, VDCI will give you the foundation you need to relaunch your career.

I had a very positive experience in completing this program! While all the instructors were great, Mr. O'Malley and Ms. Cortis both stand out in my mind as exceptional. Both of them went beyond just answering my questions, but provided extra resources and in-depth feedback. Both were extremely helpful and much appreciated. I am still amazed that I learned so much in such a short period of time. The hands-on approach used in the courses was fantastic, because I not only learned about the programs, but how to actually use them to produce real drawings and models. Also, in addition to the great instructors, the other VDCI staff have been very supportive and wonderful to work with. I am 100% happy with my decision to go with VDCI for this program.

I found my practicum professor. Megan Lacy, stood out to me the most. I really enjoyed the whole course overall. It was amazing to see how the software had changed over the years and the ease that some of it had evolved into. All the instructors that I had over the whole course were very knowledgeable in their fields and were able to help whenever software issues arose. They were always available for questions; they would give good feedback with the work that was submitted for grading, which helped as I moved along in the course. I look forward to working in the field and expanding on it by continuing with future classes in 3D and Navis.

Overall, I had a great experience. I was a bit frustrated in the beginning but that quickly went away, and I feel like I finished strong. I think all the instructors were great! Derek Cuttsinger stands out to me because he responded to my questions/problems very quickly and because of the time zone difference, time was of the essence. I also received a lot of good feedback from him which really helped me complete my final.
