Learn how to set up your next revision when you've developed most of your content. This includes how to add the necessary information to all modified sheets, QC your sheets, and apply the revisions correctly.
Key Insights
- When you've developed most of your project content, the next step is to set up your next revision. This involves adding all the information to the modified sheets and noting them for the final or the midterm.
- Adding revisions sheet by sheet is helpful from a quality control standpoint. This allows you to pick up minor issues that may have an impact on other views in the set. However, this may not always be practical when you have a large number of sheets.
- When applying revisions, be sure to include new sheets in the sheet list and add the revision to all necessary sheets. Keep in mind that any changes made to a sheet should be indicated with a revision cloud, which can be tagged for easier reference.

Now that we've gone through and developed most of the content, next thing we want to do here is we want to go to our view tab and set our next revision. We got revision A, B, and then we're going to add one more. And this one is going to be for our BIM 303 final.
And then we're going to add the information or add all the sheets that we've modified to this one. And so that all the sheets that we have will be noted for the final or the midterm or our BIM 302 course. And so our title sheet changed, our gross area plan.
So it's going to be pretty much all the sheets that have had some sort of modification to them. And so we'll go through and like we did for the midterm, we're going to use this opportunity to also QC our sheets. And so what I'm doing is I'm just taking inventory of the different sheets that we have.
And then we're going to go ahead and apply the revisions to them. So I'm going to start with our T100 sheet. And I'm just going to take a quick look and see if anything looks off.
And everything looks pretty good here. I am seeing one thing, and that's this wall that we drew just goes straight through these columns. And that actually would not be the case.
And so what I'll do is I'll split the wall at those points, and then we'll just drag the ends so that they hit the face of the column. And that may seem like a small trivial thing, but in reality, when we look at our A201 sheet, you can see that it's doing something weird to a previous phase, because it's kind of cutting it in half versus what we have here. So making that small change is a big deal, because it does have an impact on other views in the set.
So it's just a minor thing, but it's something that we want to pick up. And that's why adding revisions sheet by sheet is helpful from a QC standpoint. It may not always be practical when you have 100 sheets in a set, but it's something just to keep in mind.
So I'll go ahead and add our BIM 303 final to this sheet, since that's we created between the midterm and final. And then I'll kind of just work my way through. So I started with that one, but I'm going to start from our title sheet, and we'll just go down and make sure we have that revision added.
For our title sheet, what we're going to want to do is want to make sure that the sheets that are created and are going to be part of the set are on here. If you remember, the A901 and 902 were sheets that we created that weren't being included. And then also here, you can see that the 600 sheets aren't included in this set either.
So I'm going to go ahead and select those two and make sure that they appear in the sheet list. And then the same thing with our 601 and 602 sheets, those should be included in here. And you can see which ones have not been added or which ones are very new, right? So those are going to have revision C as well.
And then we just need to go through and add. We can start with now our gross area plans and our rentable plans. And we can add the revision to those sheets.
And at some point, we'll want to close hidden windows because we're just going to have many sheets open and it'll be a little crazy. So jumping back to the title sheet, our campus plan and our site plan, those haven't been modified since we worked on them in BIM 302. We'll go ahead and leave those ones as is.
But then once we get to our floor plans here, we're going to want to make sure that we are adding that next revision to those sheets. Definitely our roof plan because we did make modifications to that. And so one of the things we did was we modified the boundary outline.
And so if we wanted to, we can go in and we can actually add a revision cloud to that. And so if you go to your annotate tab and then revision cloud, since we did make a change to that, I can take my rectangle tool and I could just draw the boundary. And you can do that with a rectangle if you're just doing a straight rectangle.
Or since we modified this whole edge here, what I could do is I could use the line tool and I can kind of just make a polygon that shows that portion of the roof that got modified by drawing the cloud around it. And I'm doing this on the sheet and not necessarily in the model here because it's a revision that we're making to this sheet specifically. And so it's just like any other sketch.
This one's allowed to be a little bit more flexible, but I can just finish that. And then what's cool about these is I can actually tag them. So you can use the tag by category and then it'll use a revision tag here.
And see how it says B midterm? That's because when I drew this cloud, it was set to be on the midterm. So I'll go ahead and change that to final. And you can see those modifications were made.
And we can go through as we keep moving through and just add the rest of them on here. So the elevation sheets, I'll just go ahead and add it. Okay.
And then building sections. And then our enlarged plans and interior elevations. And these are the views that you really want to look at because they didn't have a lot of changes to them during this cycle, but things around them could have changed.
So you just want to take a good glance, double check, make sure everything looks good. And then our wall sections, we'll go ahead and add our final revision to those. And one thing I'd like to point out too is like once we add a revision cloud, so like we could do that for here as well, it will automatically add the revision to the sheet.
So you don't have to do the adding the revision to the sheet like we did on the other ones. And then our 3D views get to pick up that last revision. Okay.
And then what we can do is we can go to our title sheet and double check that the revisions have been filled out. And then we'll go ahead and hit save. And then we're going to take a look at the checklist and just, that'll be something that you're going to want to run through and just make sure you got everything set up.
And then we can print for our final.
