Optimizing File Loading Speed with Worksets in Revit: A Practical Guide

Efficiently Loading Worksets in Revit for Faster File Access

Discover how to enhance the efficiency of your Revit Project Management by leveraging worksets to open and close your files faster. This is particularly useful when dealing with larger model sizes, which can often be time-consuming to load.

Key Insights

  • The article provides step-by-step instructions on how to selectively open worksets in Revit, which can help speed up the loading time of large model sizes.
  • By clicking on the down arrow next to the Open button, users can specify which worksets they want to open, offering greater flexibility and control over the loading process.
  • The article also demonstrates how to access worksets during a session and how to see the structural model by changing the status from 'No' to 'Yes' in the Opened column within Worksets Settings.

Hello and welcome to the CAD Teacher VDCI video series for Revit Project Management. In this video, we're going to go over how we could use worksets to open and close our files a little bit faster. Because once we get into a larger model size, it can take a little while to load all of the worksets.

So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and go to Open. And I want to open up my local file. So I'm going to go to my BIM 304 folder that we created.

And I'm going to go to my architectural local file here. And we don't necessarily have to always open the file with all the worksets loaded. If you look down here at the bottom next to Open, there's a down arrow.

And if we click on that, it'll actually allow us to specify which worksets that we want to open. We can open all of them. The only ones that we have editable.

The last viewed, which is the default. Or we can actually specify which ones we want to open. So I'm going to click Specify.

And then I'll go ahead and click Open. And before it opens the file, what it's going to do, it's going to show me all the worksets. And it'll give me the option to not open some of the worksets.

So I'm going to say No to Furniture. And I don't want to open it, so I'm going to click Close to close it. For Interior, I'm not going to open that one either.

And I'm going to do the same thing with Mechanical, Plumbing. And I'm just using Control to add to my selections here. And also my Structural.

So I'm going to hit Close. So I'm only going to open my Shared Levels and Grids, Workset 1, and Corn Shell. And I'll go ahead and click OK.

So what I've done here is I've opened up my file. But all I have open is the Corn Shell workset that I've placed. And if I wanted to access those worksets during this session, all I have to do is go to my Worksets Settings.

And you can see here we've got the list of our worksets. And then I've got an Opened column. And the ones that we opened upon opening the file are listed as Yes.

And the other ones are No. If I wanted to see my Structural model, I can go ahead and change that from No to Yes. Hit OK.

And then it'll load the Structural model. And then I can Save to Central.
