Discover how to effectively clean up and better manage your design projects before transitioning to the next phase. Learn the significance of deleting unused reference planes, switching out of wireframe view, and removing redundant construction lines and imports from your project.
Key Insights
- The article highlights the need to remove unused reference planes and dimensions from your projects for better organization and to avoid unnecessary clutter.
- Switching from wireframe view to hidden line view is crucial to avoid a common mistake that many people make while handling design projects.
- Managing and removing unused CAD formats and links from the project allows for a smoother transition to the next phase of the project and helps to keep the project free from redundant elements.

Before we start our demo portion of the project, we have a couple of housekeeping things that we need to take care of. So the reference planes have been great, but we're not going to use them anymore, so it would be a little bit sloppy for us to keep those in. So any dimensions that I've drawn that we're not going to use as part of our final product should also be deleted.
And these reference planes aren't phased, so they'll show up everywhere. So I'm going to go through and delete them, because we're not going to need them anymore. These were really just construction lines that we used for our project, and we don't need to keep those around anymore.
The other thing, and this is a really, really common mistake that a lot of people make, is leaving their view in wireframe. We want to make sure we take it out of wireframe and go back to hidden line. The last part is this import that we inserted here, and that was the link that we used.
So I'm going to turn off the section box real quick. It shows up in every view because that's how we imported it, and that's fine. But we don't need it anymore, because we've created the existing model, and now we're ready to move on to demolishing the portions we don't need, so that we can implement our new design.
And to do that, what I need to do is I actually need to go into my manage tab, and then manage links. And what I can do is I can go to CAD formats, and here's the link that we have. We can actually remove this from the project, and so if we had done an import instance, it's essentially a symbol that just gets pasted everywhere.
And if we don't remove all of those symbols, it's actually kind of hard to remove. That's why we made sure to use a link—this way, all we have to do is hit remove right here. And now it's gone from the project.
You can see if I go to existing level one, it is no longer shown here. Oh, one more reference plane. And when we look at existing level two, no more link, and it's gone from the project.
We're all ready to move on to our next phase, which is going to be demo. And the first thing we need to do is set up all of those views.
