Customizing User Interface in Revit for Efficient Navigation

Customize Your Revit User Interface for Efficient Navigation

Discover how to customize your user interface to enhance navigation and efficiency. This article provides step-by-step instructions for setting up a streamlined workspace by deselecting unnecessary tabs and tools.

Key Insights

  • The article provides detailed instructions on how to create a new project using an Imperial architectural template.
  • The author emphasizes the importance of decluttering the interface by disabling unnecessary tabs and tools in the ribbon, such as the structure tab and tools, the mechanical, electrical, and piping tools, as well as massing insight, energy analysis, and route analysis.
  • If needed, previously disabled tabs and tools can be easily re-enabled by revisiting the user interface setup and rechecking the respective boxes.

In this video, I'd like to go over how we can customize our User Interface so that we can make sure that we're all on the same page when it comes to navigating and trying to find things as you're following along with the videos. So the first thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and I'm just going to open or start a new project here. So I'm going to go to New.

And then I'll just pick the Imperial architectural template and hit OK. And this is just going to open up a generic template for us to use so that we can get this User Interface set up. When you look across the top of the project, you can see here that we have a number of different tabs within the ribbon here.

A lot of these we're just not going to use for this project. So there's no point in having all of these on and just cluttering up the interface. So what I can do to customize this a little bit is I can go to File and then Options.

And from here, you can see we have a lot of different things that we can mess with, but we're going to focus on User Interface. And at the very top, we have a Configure option where we can go through and we can uncheck or check the items that we would want to use. So in this case, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to uncheck the Structure tab and Tools because we're not going to need those for this class.

I will uncheck the Mechanical, the Electrical, and the Piping tools. And then you can see we have Massing and Site, Energy Analysis, and Route Analysis. And we won't need the bottom two here.

Now, if you run into a situation where you do need these, you can just come back into this User Interface and recheck the box and they'll reappear. So you can see we have, before I hit OK here, we have Structure and Steel and Precast and Systems, and a lot of those are going to go away after we hit OK. Now we have a more simplified ribbon that we can use for the remainder of the class.
