Learn how to create sheets for your views, select the right title block, and fill out necessary project information in this detailed guide. Understand the process of drawing lines, adjusting sheet lists, and adding text using different tools for a well-structured title sheet for your project.
Key Insights
- The creation of sheets starts with selecting the appropriate title block, after which, placeholder sheets can be selected and filled out with project details such as project number, author, and checker details.
- The author used VDCI as an example, but it's important to fill out the project details with your own name, project name (BIM 302 in this case), and your instructor's name as the checker.
- Creating a space for project information on the title sheet involves drawing lines, adjusting the sheet list, and using the text tool to add title, client name, and address. Always make sure to choose the right text size for readability and to establish a hierarchy in the information presented.

Now let's create some sheets to put our views onto. If we go to our view tab and sheet, we have a few placeholders that we've already created, and we have our title blocks here. So before we create all of these sheets here, we want to make sure we go in and select the right title block.
And then what I can do is I can select all of my placeholder sheets here that we created for the midterm. And I can go ahead and hit OK, and it will create all of those sheets for me. What we want to do is go ahead and fill this out.
So I'm going to put VDCI here, but you go ahead and put your name in this location. And then the project name is BIM 302. And that won't change for the rest of the course.
And then we have information here that you'll want to fill out. So our project number is also BIM 302. And then we've got the author, where you can put your name, and your checker will be your instructor.
With the title sheet, what we'll want to do is create a space for us to have some information for our project here. And what we'll do is we'll just kind of draw a couple lines in. So I like to draw in just one in about this area here, because then we can have plenty of title information on the top.
And then I'll draw in another one about here. And so just to give you a reference, that's eight inches or so here. And then it's going to be about the same amount of distance coming down, going this way.
And so I'll just even that out. So it's eight inches there. And then we're going to put renderings in eventually at these locations.
And then we'll use this spot for our sheet list. So I'll go ahead and drag that over since we've already got that created and set that in. And then I'm just going to go ahead and clean this up a bit because we don't need it to be so scrunched.
The sheet number can be pretty tight, but the sheet name should have quite a bit of space. And then I'll just tighten this up a bit so that the lines are closer to overlapping than they were previously. You'll notice I zoom in pretty close and then I can use the nudge tool.
And then what I'll do is I'll just push these things around, making the sheet name longer until it overlaps there. Now I've got my sheet list in place. The only thing I need now are my title and my client name.
So I'll go ahead and I can add those using the text tool. If I go to annotate and text, I can pick the text size that I want. So I've got a couple to choose from here.
If we look at what quarter-inch Arial looks like, we can kind of see if that's appropriate or not. And I think that's going to be too small for our heading there. We're going to go ahead and increase that size.
So edit type, duplicate to make a new text size. If we go with half inch instead, we just need to update the size here and that looks much better. And so I'll just kind of move it so it's a little further down there and then I'll copy it down and put the client name.
And then we can add our address, which would be in this field here. And we could, this is one of the ones that you could, you could use a smaller text for that as well to establish some hierarchy there. And that's going to be our title sheet for this project.
