Discover the process of transforming renderings into workable content for construction drawings. This article dives into the intricacies of creating professional floor plans, adjusting view ranges and scale settings, and how to effectively position these elements within a construction document set.
Key Insights
- The article details the production process of a first floor plan, highlighting the usage of guide grids for overall planning. It discusses the placement of grid intersections and view titles as crucial elements of the process.
- It underscores the importance of scale in creating plans, explaining the shift from an eighth inch per foot to a quarter inch per foot for new plans. It also outlines the process of adding new level plans to the sheet and the adjustment of view titles.
- The piece also covers the procedure for creating a roof plan, which involves adjusting the view range to look further down and ensuring the correct scale before adding it to the sheet. The article emphasizes adjusting the view title and positioning it accurately for a professional finish.

Now that we've gotten the renderings out of the way here, we get to start having a ton of fun here. And that means we're going to create the content that we need for all of these sheets here. And starting with our first floor plan.
And so our demo plans have a guide grid that we can use for our overall plans, which is this one here. And we know that this is where we want the grid intersection to be. And this is where we want our view title to sit.
If I were to go to my new level one plan, I can see that it's been set up to have everything working around that same scope box that we were using before. But the difference is when I look at my demo plans, they're using quarter inch per foot. And my new plans right now are set at eighth inch.
And so I want to make that change. I'll change it to quarter inch per foot. And then I'm going to go ahead and put my new level one plan on the sheet.
And I'm gonna do the same thing with level two and my roof plan. And I want to get as much of this type of thing out of the way right now so that we can quickly package this together and have our PDF ready to go. So I'm just gonna kind of tidy these things up.
Remember this one, we couldn't get exactly where we wanted it except for this intersection here, which I just cleverly moved there. So I'll go ahead and put it back. Sometimes it's a little tricky when you're that close to something.
So what I'll do is I'll just move it away like I've done here and then move it back into place. And so making sure I just have the view title selected, I can go ahead and do the nudge. And now we're all set.
And I can already see there's gonna be a problem with my section here. So I'll go ahead and just kind of move this around. And this is the one I want to use.
So I'll just cycle through to have the section head here and the tail there, because I don't like to have the sections head within the project. Okay, so there's level one. We'll do the same thing with level two, opening up that A202 sheet, going to the level two view and changing it to quarter inch per foot.
And then we'll go ahead and put it on a sheet. And I need to make sure I get that guide grid showing on this sheet here so that we know exactly where to put it and then move our view into place. And just maybe one more little nudge there.
Okay, and then the last one is our roof plan. We will change this one to quarter inch. And this one looks like it needs a little bit of work because we can't actually see our roof there.
And so what I need to do is adjust my view range to look further down right now. It's just looking down to the roof. So I'll have it look down to level below and then it'll pick up our new elements here.
Okay, and then the scale looks correct. And so I go ahead and put it on the sheet now, making sure that guide grid's on and then putting that roof plan on the sheet, moving it into place. And then lastly, adjusting the view title.
And if you notice the further in you zoom, the less of a move you get with your nudge using the directional pad on your keyboard. And this wants to be a little further over. Okay, it looks good.
And so now we can go in and we can start looking at some of the stuff we wanna do to our A201 plan to make it look like it's meant to be part of a construction document set.
