Explore the process of creating a cartoon set of sheets for a PDF project, using the View tab, choosing a title block and naming the sheets according to their purpose, such as 'Floor Plan' or 'Roof Plan'. Discover how to embed valuable information into these sheets, such as the project name, owner, and individual sheet names, and see how this will appear across all created sheets.
Key Insights
- The creation of a cartoon set of sheets for a PDF project involves using the View tab and selecting 'Sheet', which presents various options for title blocks.
- The project name and owner are details that only need to be entered once and will appear across all created sheets, providing consistency and ease of identification.
- Each sheet can be named according to its function, such as 'Floor Plan' or 'Roof Plan', and can be numbered for easy reference, using a system such as 'A101' or 'A201' for example.

In this video, we're going to create a cartoon set of all the sheets that we're going to use for the PDF that we'll create for this project. To do that, we're going to go ahead and create some sheets. So first off, we're going to go to the View tab and we're going to find Sheet.
When I click Sheet, what'll happen is I'll get some options for title blocks that we can use. If you don't see a title block that you want to use here, you can always click Load and we'll have them in our BIM 101 folder. We're looking for this VDCI 11 × 17 title block.
Since that was already in our project, I'll just go ahead and override it. And we're going to pick this title block to use for our sheet. So I'll click OK.
And you can see our first sheet is created. And what I have to do here is I can go in and I can give it a name. And so in this case, it's going to be called Floor Plan.
Notice the sheet number is A101. And then I can adjust the project name. And what's great about this is I only have to do project name and owner one time.
So I will name it Habitat for Humanity House. And so you can see it says Habitat for Humanity House. And then for the owner, we'll call this one BIM 101 Project 1. And then you could put your first and your last name.
And that'll show up on all of the sheets we create. Now that we've created the floor plan sheet, we can just kind of roll through into the next one, which is going to be our roof plan. So same sheet.
Pick the same title block. And the only information we need to put in here is the actual sheet name. So this one's going to be Roof Plan.
The sheet number is going to be 102, which is fine. And then we'll do it again. Sheet.
This one's for elevations. And I'm going to change the number this time to A201. And we'll call it Elevations.
And one more sheet. We'll do it again. Same title block.
Notice that it's A202 automatically again because the last sheet we created was A201. And we'll call this one Elevations as well. Now what we have, if we look at our project browser, under Sheets, we have all the sheets that we just created located in here.
And the next thing we can do is we can go through each one of the views that we've created and put them on a sheet and format them to be ready to be printed.
