This course covers everything from aesthetics to form and function. We will also talk about the elements and principles of design. And by the time you finish this course, you will have a much better understanding of what it really takes to become an interior designer.

And I'm excited to share this with you. Now, interior designers can make architectural changes. And I think this is something that's really important and it's worth noting is that we'll talk about the difference between a decorator and a designer.

But one of the first things I think it's really important that we note is that interior designers have the capability of changing the interior and actually making architectural changes. Now, this means that you may have to coordinate with the architect. This means that you'll likely be doing space planning.

Some of the areas where we are responsible as interior designers are being efficient with how we space plan. We look at interior design related to daylight and lighting control. We look at material performance.

We look at sustainability and how the materials will perform under various conditions like heat or other elements. We look at what's appropriate. And when I say what's appropriate, I mean, which furniture and which design layout makes the most sense for the particular project that you're working on.

You know, having furniture that meets the needs of a hundred users might be very different from what you need to meet the needs of just one user. We'll talk about that. We'll also talk about color and how color and the elements work together to create absolutely beautiful spaces.

But it's more than that. Not only can we create beautiful spaces, but we have the ability to alter how someone perceives space. Think about that for a second.

You have the ability as an interior designer to control the mood of the person in that space. How powerful can that be if we can create spaces that actually make a positive difference? How positive would that be if we can create spaces that work with wellbeing? We're gonna discuss a number of elements and principles in the coming lessons. But one thing I can tell you is that interior designers really have the power to change an individual for the better.

We'll talk about sustainability. We'll talk about how interior designers work with sustainable measures. And as we look into sustainability, we'll look into wellness.

And wellness is a category of interior design where the interior design has an opportunity to really help the individual that's in that space. So yes, of course, a doctor inside a medical office will need a certain layout, or have an idea of where things are gonna go as far as furniture, surgeries, these types of things. But the actual interior design makes a difference too.

The actual control of daylight, the control of materials, the use of the various materials that can be applied to the space, they actually make a difference in the user. And when I say user, I'm referring to the person who is using the particular space that you're designing. We have a massive responsibility.

Okay, in the next video, we'll review the class syllabus, the policies and software options that you can utilize to complete your class project. I'm looking forward to it.
