Creating a Cutaway Section View with Breakout Tool and Spline-Based Profiles

Using a Spline-Based Profile for Breakout Section Views in Fusion

Discover how to generate a cutaway view in Fusion 360 with the Breakout Section View tool and a circular spline. Learn to create a perfect, half-depth cut in just a few simple steps.

Key Insights

  • The Breakout Section View tool in Fusion 360 allows for the creation of a cutaway view.
  • By selecting the side view and creating a circular spline on the upper stem, a cut profile can be established.
  • A green checkbox appears after clicking approximately four times, indicating that the cut is complete and based on the measure half-depth. Clicking OK finalizes the process.

Note: These materials offer prospective students a preview of how our classes are structured. Students enrolled in this course will receive access to the full set of materials, including video lectures, project-based assignments, and instructor feedback.

Now let's add a cutaway view. In the Create area, we will click Breakout Section View. Click that button.

The view we want is our side view. Click it one time. The cut profile is a spline, so we'll click a few times to create a circular spline right on this upper stem.

Once we've clicked about four times, there is a green checkbox we can click to finish up our profile. Right away, Fusion makes that cut. It's based on the measure half-depth, which is perfect, so all we need to do is click OK.
