Discover the detailed process of creating a Fusion Drawing and a Fusion Model for a wheel design, including steps for setting up and adjusting the scale, creating section views, labeling, and adding dimensions. Learn how these components can be manipulated for optimal design outcomes, using Autodesk Fusion 360.
Key Insights
- The Fusion Drawing and the Fusion Model work together, which can be accessed via the Workspace drop-down in the Model view. The mode should be set to Drawing, selecting Drawing and then From Design, with the Component set to the desired part (e.g., Wheel 1).
- After setting up the drawing, orientation, and scale, a section view of the component can be created. This involves selecting the parent view followed by a series of clicks to perfectly align and place the section view.
- Additionally, labels and dimensions can be added to the drawing for easier reference. The labels can be created using the text feature, and dimensions can be added by selecting the Dimension area and clicking on the desired lines or points within the drawing.

The Fusion Drawing and the Fusion Model area work hand-in-hand, so let's go ahead and go back to our Model. With our Model view opened up, let's go back to the Workspace drop-down. Let's drop it down.
Right now it's set to Design. Let's go to Drawing, and let's select Drawing and then From Design. We want to do Manual.
Instead of Contents Full Assembly, let's click on Select. For Component, let's click on Wheel 1. For Destination, instead of Create New Drawing, we want to put it right back into the drawing we're already working on, our named drawing, which is our Fusion 101 Scooter final drawing set. For our Sheet, we want to create a new sheet.
Our sheet size should be A3, Orientation Landscape, and click OK. That takes us back to our drawing, and now we have a front view of our wheel. Let's change the scale from 1 to 5 over to 1 to 1. With that, let's click one time and click OK.
So there's our wheel. Now we can create a section view. Up under Create, there is Section View.
We need to select our parent view, which is our wheel, so click one time. If you hover over the very top, you'll get a green guide that will help us line up to get a perfectly centered section, which is what we want. Click one time, lined up right above the top of the wheel.
Then pull our cursor or mouse straight down and click a second time at the bottom of the wheel. Then click that green checkbox. Now we can move that view to the right.
My drawing view window is kind of in the way, so I'll go as far as I can and click and click OK. So there it is. We have our section.
Now let's click and drag that to the right, and its label is up at the top. I'm going to drag that down so it's on the page. Now let's go ahead and label this view.
I'm going to go to the text, click Text. Under my wheel, I'm going to click one time on the left side, move my cursor to the right, and click a second time. I want to change my height to 10 millimeters, and for my property, I want Part Name.
For my source, I want to pull that down and select Wheel 1. Go ahead and click that plus to insert the property, and click Close. With that, let's add a couple of dimensions. In the Dimension area, click Dimension.
Let's first add the overall diameter. We'll click one time on the outside line of our circle, and click again to place that dimension. Now let's do another one.
We'll click the next line in, click. We can pull out the number so it's easier to read, and click again. I've got a couple of dimensions.
Now let's dimension our section. Let's go and click and dimension that hole. We'll zoom in a little tighter.
We'll click one side of the hole, other side of the hole, click again, pull that out, and click to place that. Let's do one more. Let's go ahead and click the top center and the bottom center.
You can see what I'm doing. I'm hovering over the bottom line, get to the center, and then click again to place that dimension. Before moving on, a little bit of housekeeping.
Let's double-click our title block and change the drawing number to 2. Click Enter and Finish Properties. With that, go ahead and click that Save button.
