Will I have lifetime access to the videos?
You will only have access to course videos during the 30 days you are enrolled in the course. You can watch the videos whenever you’d like and as many times as you’d like during this time. Afterwards, if you pass the course with a 70% or above, you will be able to receive a complementary 7-day access period, which can be activated any time after successfully completing the course.
If you are in a program, you will have access to all videos in current and past courses for the full length of your program.
How does a VDCI online class work?
All our courses are 100% online and you are able to work through the material at your pace for the duration of your class. All of our classes are pre-recorded videos with an industry expert available to answer questions and consult on the material in each course.
Students have 30 days of access to each course.

What type of computer or device do I need?
VDCI has two main types of courses: Lecture and Project-based courses. There may be different system requirements depending on which type of course you are taking. We have outlined the basics at our following page: What type of computer or device do I need?
I work full time; can I still take classes?
Yes! There are no set class times or required login times. Lectures and course materials are pre-recorded by our instructors and provided through the online learning hub on your first day of the course. Lectures can be accessed as many times as you would like during the 30 day course access. During course enrollment, students have 24/7 access to the online Learning Hub, making it easy to schedule and work on the courses when you have time.
Is this course taught on PC or Apple Mac OS?
All VDCI project-based courses are taught on PC.
What language is this course taught in?
All our courses are primarily taught in English. However, we recently launched a Spanish-language course: Blueprint Reading for Residential Construction. This course is designed to make foundational blueprint reading skills accessible to Spanish-speaking students. We’re excited to continue expanding our offerings to support a more diverse audience!

How do I access the software for this course?
When you receive your "Welcome to Class" email, you will be provided specific instructions on how to access the software you will need for your class. We recommend downloading the most recent version of the software, which will be compatible with our course workflows.
Is there a required textbook for this course?
There are no required textbooks for any VDCI courses; however, we have provided software-specific recommended textbooks as an additional resource to reference for all Autodesk and Adobe software courses. Additionally, there are no recommended textbooks for Blueprint Reading, Construction Fundamentals, Construction Estimating or for SketchUp
What is the typical amount of time it takes to complete a course?
Typically, we suggest 10 to 15 hours per week for each 30 clock hour course. Courses will have different clock hour totals, and this will impact the total time investment for each course.
When do I receive my grades?
Once you complete a course, your grade will be posted in the Learning Hub within 7 days after the course ends. Certificates of Completion will be provided to all students who complete the course with a grade of 70% or higher. Certificates of Completion are issued when official grades are posted by your instructor and can accessed on your dashboard.
When do your courses begin?
For single courses and bundles, you can start whenever you're ready—they’re completely self-paced.
For our Certificate Programs, the first class has a set start date every Monday. After completing the first class, the rest of the program follows a self-paced format, allowing you to progress at your own speed.

If the courses are self-paced, can I start anytime?

Will I work on real world projects during the course?
Yes! At VDCI, our courses are designed with a project-based learning approach, ensuring you work on real-world projects that mirror the challenges and workflows of the AEC industry. You'll use industry-standard software like AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil 3D to complete assignments based on real construction drawings, architectural designs, and engineering documents.
Is this course online?
Yes, all VDCI courses are 100% online, so there's no need to show up to a classroom in person. You can access your lectures, readings, and assignments anytime, anywhere via the web or your mobile device.
What will I get if I purchase the course?
When you purchase a Course you get access to all course materials, including graded assignments. Upon completing the course, your electronic Certificate will be added on your dashboard under the Certificates section - from there, you can print your Certificate or add it to your LinkedIn profile. If you only want to read and view the course content, you can choose to audit the course. However, please be aware that as an auditing student, you will not receive any grades, therefore you will also not receive the certificate of completion.
I just finished my course; when can I start my next course?
For bundles, you can start your next course whenever you have successfully completed your previous course. Since our courses are all self paced, you can choose when you would like to start your next course and enroll yourself.
For programs, you will be given a schedule upon enrolling that will be required to follow. Since you are on a schedule, you will be automatically enrolled in your next course 7 days after completing your previous one. If you have any discrepancies or require changes in your schedule, please reach out to learn@vdci.edu for assistance.
Can I enroll in a single course?
Yes! You can purchase any course individually. However, our course bundles do offer cost savings when purchased in full.
Is it possible to start my class right now?
Yes, all VDCI courses and bundles are self-paced. You can buy a single course or bundle now and start whenever you are ready.
Programs are slightly different, whereas, you must go through the application process first. If approved, you will then be enrolled in the first course of your program on the following Monday.
How do I enroll in a VDCI course?
To enroll in a single course or bundle, you can purchase it directly from our site, or by browsing our catalog.
To enroll in a program, you will first need to submit an application for review. Once our team has reviewed your application, they will either approve or deny based on our policies. You will then be in contact with our Student Services Team who will get you set up with your Enrollment Agreement Forms and student schedule.
What previous experience should I have before I take this course/program?
Prior knowledge in Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is helpful but not required to complete a course.
Most of our programs will help you learn the specified software from the very beginning. While some prior knowledge can be helpful, it is not required. Additionally, any prerequisites will be listed on the course page.
If I've taken software courses before, can I transfer credit in to the program?
Students' work must be completed within 2 years and then reviewed by the curriculum team. Please see our Transfer of Credit policy on page 12 of our School Catalog for more information.
What is the difference between audit and regular student?
"Regular" student allows you to receive credit for the clocked hours and "audit" student lets you sit in on the course without a grade or credit. If you are interested in receiving a certificate of completion, you will need to select the "regular" option as you will not receive one if you audit the course.
Certificates and Certifications
What’s the difference between a Course Completion Certificate, Program Certificate, Autodesk Certificate, and Autodesk Certification?
- Course Completion Certificate – Earned after completing an individual course at VDCI. This shows you have finished the course but is not an industry certification.
- Program Certificate – Awarded when you complete a full certificate program at VDCI, such as the BIM Technology Certificate Program. This demonstrates a broader skillset across multiple courses.
- Autodesk Certificate – A certificate of completion issued by Autodesk when you finish an Autodesk-approved course. This is proof of training but not an official certification.
- Autodesk Certification – An industry-recognized certification earned by passing an Autodesk Certified User (ACU) or Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) exam. This validates your software proficiency and is highly regarded by employers.

Will I Be Certified After I Complete the Course?
Students will receive a Certificate of Completion for each course passed with a 70% or higher. Autodesk software courses will also include a certificate of completion that comes directly from Autodesk. Additional certification exams can be purchased through testing organizations, and VDCI does not provide industry certification exams.
Will I Earn Any Type of Achievement By Completing This Course?
Yes! You'll earn a Certificate of Completion from VDCI and Autodesk upon completing this course, by completing all graded assignments with a cumulative 70% or better. If you'd like to earn additional recognition from Autodesk, consider attempting an Autodesk Certification Exam. When Should I Take the Autodesk Certification Exam?
You should take the exam when:
- You have completed an Autodesk-approved training course.
- You have hands-on experience using the software (recommended: 50+ hours for ACU, 150+ hours for ACP).
- You are comfortable with the exam format, which includes multiple-choice questions and hands-on tasks.
If you're unsure, taking practice exams or assessment tests can help determine your readiness.
Are There Free Retakes for the Certification Exams?
No, Autodesk does not offer free retakes. If you do not pass the exam, you will need to pay to retake it. Some Autodesk Learning Partners or testing centers may offer bundled packages that include retakes, but this depends on the provider.
How and When Do I Get My Voucher?
To receive your Autodesk certification exam voucher, you’ll need to reach out to us. We will then confirm that you have completed all the necessary requirements.
Once verified, our team will purchase the voucher from Certiport and coordinate a time for you to take your exam.
Please note: Autodesk Certified User exams are not included in the Fundamentals bundles.
How Will I Take My Exam Once I Get the Voucher? Is It Remote or In Person?
Once you receive your exam voucher, you’ll take the Autodesk Certified User exam online with a live remote proctor via Zoom. We will coordinate and schedule your exam session to ensure a smooth testing process.
Is the Exam Proctored?
Yes, the Autodesk Certified User exam is proctored. Our team will schedule your exam session with a certified proctor to ensure a secure and fair testing environment.
How Many Hours of Software Practice Do I Need To Be Prepared To Take the Exam?
The recommended practice hours vary depending on the certification level:
- Entry-level certifications (Autodesk Certified User): Typically require 100-200 hours of hands-on experience with the software.
- Advanced certifications (Autodesk Certified Professional): Usually require 400-1200 hours of practical experience due to the increased complexity of the exam.

I Just Finished My Course, How Do I Get My Autodesk Certificate?
Students who passed the class will be sent an email from Autodesk at the end of the quarter. Students who would like a certificate sooner can request it by sending an email to Student Services at learn@vdci.edu.

Is there a live instructor that can help me when I run into issues?
In each class there will be an instructor available to answer any questions you may have, but our courses are not live. Our instructors are practicing professionals in the field so we allow up to 24 hours to instructors respond to their students. Can I work at my own pace?
Yes, you can work at your own pace. For single or bundle students, each course is 30 days long. For program students, each course is 18 days long. There are no set deadlines but all of your assignments must be turned in on the last day of the course. You can login to the Learning Hub at any time at your convenience while enrolled in the course.
When does this course meet?
You do not need to log in at a specific time. You may log into the Learning Hub at any time to access your course materials, video lectures, and assignments while you are enrolled in the course.
How can I communicate with my instructor and classmates?
VDCI encourages a strong online engagement between you, your instructor, and your classmates. You will participate in discussion forums, connect with your instructor and message your classmates. You are also invited to join us in the VDCI Student Lounge, where our instructors, staff, current students and alumni share information and help one another.
Courses and Bundles
How do I access the training bundle I purchased?
Accessing your training bundle is easy! You were automatically enrolled in the training bundle upon completing your purchase.
- To find it, visit the VDCI Learning Hub and log in using the email you entered when purchasing.
If you don’t know your password, you can click “Forgot Password?” - After logging in, you will be taken to your Dashboard and will see your bundle under the “Enrolled” section. Simply click "Start" on the bundle to access it.
- Inside the bundle, you will see the included courses. For lecture-based ones, you can take these courses in any order, or multiple ones at the same time. You must take project-based courses in order, one at a time. When you are ready to begin, click the “Start” button
- You can now click “Enroll” and select the first option.
- Upon clicking Submit, you will be enrolled and taken directly to the course. You will also receive a Welcome to Class message with important information. Please note that once you enroll in the class, your 30 day access starts immediately.
- Please ensure you have completed ALL of the topics in the "Welcome & Resources" tab to move onto Lesson 1.

What is the refund policy?
For courses and bundles, you are eligible for a refund as long as you have not accessed the course in the Learning Hub. By signing the Cancellation & Refund acknowledgement, you will no longer be eligible for a refund for the individual course.
How long do I have access to a course after buying?
When you purchase a course, you can enroll and start whenever you're ready. Once you begin the course, you will have 30 days to complete it and access the course materials.
We also offer an additional 7 days of video access after you successfully complete the course with a 70% or above. To request this extension, simply reach out to your instructor or contact our Student Services team at learn@vdci.edu.
Can international students enroll in VDCI courses?
Anyone can enroll in Single or Bundle training at VDCI. Please be aware that majority of our training is only taught in English. The only non-English course is our Blueprint Reading for Residential Construction in Spanish. If you are interested in our Programs, you must reside in the United States or Canada.
How do I get past the first lesson? It seems to be locked.
You must complete all the topics in the "Welcome & Resources" section before moving on to the next section. When each section is complete, there will be a green checkmark next to the course titles. Please see the video below of how to move to your next lesson.

Does VDCI offer job placement and assistance?
While VDCI does not guarantee job placement, our Certificate Program students gain access to our Career Services. This includes:

- Portfolio Preparation: Showcasing the real-world projects you’ve completed during your training
- Mock Interview Practice: Providing tips and mock interviews to build your confidence.
How long do I have access to the course materials after enrolling in a Certificate or Fast Track Program?
You will have 18 days to complete the assignments for each course, starting from your enrollment date. While there are no set due dates for individual assignments, all work must be submitted by the 18th day. If you need extra time, please message your instructor in the learning hub to request an extension.
For certificate students, the capstone course allows 40 days to complete the project. If you need additional access to course videos after completing a course, you may request it through your instructor.
What is the refund policy?
Refunds for a program will vary depending on how much of the program has already been completed. Each program refund is calculated so that the outcome is in the best interest of the student. If the student has completed more than 60% of the program, there will be no refund available. Please refer to our refund policy on our catalog on page 61-62.

Is Financial Aid available?
VDCI is not eligible to receive title IV funding like FAFSA and financial aid. However, we do have a private scholarship opportunity available. If awarded it can cover up to $2,000 of program tuition.

The Al Whitley Memorial Scholarship
The Al Whitley Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of Al Whitley, the founder of VDCI. The scholarship embodies Al Whitley’s enduring legacy, serving as a beacon of opportunity for aspiring professionals in the AEC field, fostering their growth and dedication to excellence.
The scholarship funds can be applied to any of the VDCI Nationally Accredited Programs – Fast-Track Programs and Certificate Programs. These programs range from 3-10 months and feature fast-paced, asynchronous online learning to prepare students for a job in the AEC industry. The programs offered include training in CAD, BIM and Digital Design software, such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
Prospective students and active students can apply for the scholarship. The scholarship is a tuition reduction scholarship totaling up to $2,000.00 for the specified Program. Scholarship funds are applied to any remaining balance due toward a program and cannot be used to cover any initial payments toward a program. Cash funds are not distributed to the student as a part of this scholarship.
How to Apply
The best way to apply is to visit the Al Whitley Memorial Scholarship page. There, you will find the application schedule, as well as the Apply Now button. This button will take you to the scholarship application, where you will fill out your details and work or community service experience and complete two essay questions.
After the application period ends, a panel will review each application and select an awardee, who will then be notified directly.
