## Overview

If you’re working in construction or looking to better understand how buildings are designed to hold together, this course gives you the structural context behind the work. Part of the Construction Fundamentals series, this course is geared toward anyone who needs a clearer picture of how structural systems function and why they matter. You’ll look at how different systems support and distribute loads, what makes materials strong or durable enough for the job, and how industry standards shape safe, efficient design decisions from the start.

From there, the focus shifts to how this knowledge is used on real projects. You’ll practice evaluating structural stability, identifying potential risks before they become problems, and reading structural drawings so communication with engineers and construction teams is clear and productive. Codes, regulations, and sustainable building principles are treated as practical tools, not abstract rules, showing how they guide everyday decisions, improve performance, and reduce environmental impact on active construction sites.

## What you'll learn

- Understand how structural systems support and distribute loads.
- Key concepts of material properties, such as strength, durability, and load-bearing capacities.
- Techniques for assessing structural stability and identifying potential risks.
- How to interpret structural drawings and effectively communicate with engineers and construction teams.
- The principles of sustainable building practices to optimize performance and reduce environmental impact.
- Real-world applications of structural codes and regulations for safety and compliance.
