## Overview

Master complex 3D design by building a fully featured off road vehicle in this advanced SOLIDWORKS modeling course. Through structured, project based lessons, you’ll strengthen troubleshooting skills, practice certification level part creation, and bring mechanical assemblies to life using universal, CAM, gear, and spring mates. Along the way, you’ll work with motion studies, camera driven animations, and powerful built in analysis tools including FloXpress, SimulationXpress, and DFMXpress to evaluate exhaust flow, chassis strength, manufacturability, and molded part quality. The course also explores surfacing techniques and advanced modeling features as you model sculpted wine carafes, design a streamlined outdoor vehicle body exterior, and add visual details that bring the project to life.

You’ll also refine visual storytelling using SOLIDWORKS Visualize by working with lighting, cameras, and materials to produce portfolio ready renders. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to build both inorganic and organic forms and will have a strong command of the major feature families along with a versatile set of modeling strategies you can use for a wide range of design challenges. This experience prepares students to pursue the official SOLIDWORKS Professional Certification.

## What you'll learn

- Apply advanced SOLIDWORKS workflows and troubleshooting strategies to create complex parts and assemblies, preparing the student for the SOLIDWORKS
- Professional Certification.2. Use mechanical mates, motion studies, and analysis tools to simulate real-world mechanical behavior and evaluate performance and manufacturability.
- Model and refine advanced surface and mesh geometries to produce streamlined bodies, sculpted products, and manufacture-ready components.
- Differentiate and work effectively with B-rep, CSG, mesh, and graphics bodies while leveraging specialized features.
- Create visually compelling, presentation-ready content by controlling cameras, lighting, materials, and drawings for high-quality renders and product pages.

## Prerequisites

This course has a recommended prerequisite. You will need to have completed our [Intro to SOLIDWORKS Course Online](https://vdci.edu/courses/introduction-to-solidworks) and [Intermediate SOLIDWORKS Course Online](https://vdci.edu/courses/intermediate-solidworks), or have equivalent experience.

## Instructors

### William Tenney — Instructor

William Tenney is a career Solidworks designer. He began his career in consumer products then shifted to retail display design, corporate interiors, and finally furniture. His time with Solidworks spans almost two decades where in that time he designed many pieces for mass production, was awarded co-inventor status on five patents, obtained the Professional Certification and Surfacing Certification for Solidworks, and also contributed to many pieces shown in such publications as Architectural Digest, Interior Design Magazine, Fashion Magazine, and 1st Dibs. Outside of his work life, he is a husband to a wonderful spouse and a father to two future creatives.
