Crafting a Career: The Inspiring Story of a BIM Certificate Graduate

John began his career in the construction industry performing basic labor tasks, such as cleaning up houses. Eager to advance in his field, he sought out a program that could provide the necessary skills and knowledge for career growth. That search led him to The VDC Institute, where he discovered the flexibility and comprehensive training he needed in our BIM Certificate Program!

Today, John is an architectural associate at PWG, where he plays a critical role in assembling and organizing engineers’ drawings into cohesive plans. Reflecting on his experience at VDCI, John feels well-prepared for his responsibilities, thanks to the practical and in-depth training he received.

John’s capstone project was a significant highlight of his education. The invaluable feedback from his instructor, Derek, helped him refine his project at each stage. “The advice that he gave me was invaluable because it helped me set up floor plans that gave me structure and fundamentals. Once you have the fundamentals, it’s very easy to build off of them,” John explained.

Career Transformation

When John walked into his job interview at PWG, he brought with him a portfolio of work that included his PFC 501, construction documents final, and detailing final. His employer was impressed by the quality and extent of his work, especially considering he had completed the program in just nine months.

John credits VDCI entirely for his career transformation, highlighting the program’s affordability and quality compared to other options. He expressed profound gratitude for the flexibility, online format, and supportive staff at VDCI. “Without VDCI, I wouldn’t know anything about Revit, and I wouldn’t be making money right now. You guys are doing amazing stuff with the flexibility and friendliness. I really appreciated my time here. It was amazing. I learned a lot, and I just can’t thank you guys enough for that.”
